Birthday Weekend Recap
Birthdays are weird as you get older. I don't think I've actually celebrated a birthday - other than the typical going out to dinner thing - since college. Last year, I was so pregnant all I wanted to do was eat. I'm not sure what it was about this birthday, but I knew I wanted to celebrate!Mom Rant: I love being a mama, but to be honest, since Finn's arrival, I just haven't had much time out with other adults. David and I have gone on maybe a handful of date nights, but my mom guilt always tells me I should stay home and cherish all the memories with my little man. It takes some convincing to get me excited about leaving Finn man at home with his grandparents. Not because they aren't wonderful, because they are! And they are so wonderful with Finn! - but Finn is already 9 months old, and it's going by so fast. It just feels like if I spend one night away from him, I will miss so much. Also, haven't mentioned this on the blog yet, but I'll be spending four nights away in just a few weeks when I go out to Colorado to visit my sisters. We are also taking a little side trip to Las Vegas for my soon-to-be-cousin-in-law's (!!) bachelorette party. I'm so excited to see everyone and celebrate Natalie's first birthday, but my anxiety is already on high alert. I haven't spent a night away from Finn yet, and I haven't spent a night away from David in - yikes - a very long time!Ok mom rant over.Anyways, I was so happy that David asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday. Coincidently, my sister had just texted me about how she and her boyfriend had done an Escape Room. She said they had a blast. I always wanted to do one, but didn't realize Charlottesville had one. He did a simple Google search (LOL) and set things up!Earlier in the day, David sent me to get a facial. I had never had one before! I didn't realize what I was missing. My skin still looks so much healthier and it was so relaxing. When I got home, David had dropped the baby off at his parent's house, and I found myself home alone, with Juneau of course, for the first time in months. I turned on some music and cracked a beer :) I guess I haven't changed much after all!We met up with our friends later to try the Escape Room. Sean and Christina have a son, Noah, who is three months younger than Finn and Austin and Jesa are expecting next month. It's so wonderful to have people who are in the same season of life as us.So for those who have no clue what an Escape Room is - we were given a "mission" and a time limit and "locked" in a room. The room consisted of about a dozen puzzles - riddles, word games, math problems, you name it - and we had to figure out each puzzle to complete our "mission" and get out of the room.I really had no idea what to expect, but every one of us got really into it. We took our mission seriously :) and worked together to get out of the room. We escaped in 68 minutes... I think they gave us those 8 extra minutes because we were so close to solving it anyways. We had so many laughs and everyone said they would do it again. Let me just tell you, it can be hard to find an activity that all of your friends enjoy, and we some how found one!We wrapped up our weekend with some family time on Sunday. We got Juneau out for some exercise since it was 70 degrees!! And topped it off with some Wegmans subs. It was an awesome weekend :)
