The Story Behind Reese's Name
Before we even got pregnant with Finn, he was named. We even had a backup boys name, just in case. When we found out we were expecting a girl, we were completely unprepared. David and I could never agree on a baby girl name, and when it was time to actually choose one, it became even more difficult.
We decided that we didn't need to put the pressure on and that we would fall in love with a name with plenty of time. It was a completely different feeling than with Finn. Naming our baby was becoming stressful!
At one point we downloaded the "Kinder", an app that literally has you swipe right or left on names that you like. It links with your partner's app and gives you a list of names that you both swiped "yes" on!
Before she was Reese, she was Lila, Nell and Quinn. I wanted Scout - how freaking cute is the name Scout for a little girl?- but I couldn't convince David. He loves the name Abigail, but I have a cousin with that name. Lila stuck around for a month or so, until we both admitted that we weren't in love with it. Nell hung around for a few weeks, but it never felt quite right. When we couldn't think of anything else, we said her name would be Quinn and our kids would have rhyming names and we'd be okay with that.
It wasn't until the night before my due date that we chose Reese. I had brought up the name several times before, but David didn't latch on. I brought it up again that night and for some reason it stuck. He said it aloud several times and that was it! We loved that it was short and sweet, just like Finn's, and it was a name that would fit her through all the stages of her life.
When she was born, she looked like a Reese. And when Finn started calling her "My Reese", we knew it was perfect. (He never really said Lila and couldn't say Nell. Her middle name is Catherine, after my mom.
