Life Lately - December 13, 2017

I can't believe it's been over a month since I've written a Life Lately post! I know I say this all the time, but time is flying by! We've got a toddler running around for goodness sakes! And boy, is he embracing every little bit of the word toddler. Ha! I could give you the run down of how we watched Moana 87 times this week - and it's only Wednesday - how we had a meltdown in Wegman's last night because someone wanted to play with a broom instead of eating, how we all of a sudden hate our carseat... but these things are just par for the course, right? In any case, Finn's ruling the roost and we are going along with it. He's certainly at a fun age! In other news, David's been traveling again for work, I've filmed about a dozen videos for work since Thanksgiving break, and Christmas is just around the corner. We have just about all of our shopping done (that's a first!) and just have a few odds and ends to pick up.

Thanksgiving In New York

Speaking of Thanksgiving break, we spent the majority of the week in New York with my parents. It was strange being the only child home for the holiday, but Finn got quality time with Grammy and Papi, so it was worth it. We drove up on Tuesday and spent the day Wednesday at the Strong Museum of Play. I remember going there as a kid and to bring my kid back there is truly a crazy experience! Finn had so much fun climbing, shopping at the fake Wegman's and reading all the books! We spent Thanksgiving morning lounging around watching the parade and the dog show. We headed to my aunt's house for dinner that evening. It was a smaller crew than normal, but that made it much more intimate! Finn enjoyed his first Thanksgiving meal, but impatiently left the table to watch Moana... again. On Friday we drove down to Ithaca to visit with Sarah and Ryan who were in town for a wedding. I'm glad we made the trip, even if we only saw them for a few hours! I made it back in time to watch my besties, Carrie and Michelle, play in our high school's alumni basketball game! The rest of the week was spent spending way too much money on the great sales and eating my mom's pumpkin bread. It's always so relaxing to be home!

David Wins Gold... Twice!

This past weekend Finn and I drove to Richmond to watch David compete in a grappling tournament. David trains in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a form of martial arts, and competed in his first ever tournament on Saturday. He won all six of his matches and ended up taking first place in both of his brackets. I'm so proud of him! Since the day I met him, David has talked about competing at these tournaments. Life happens - we moved away, school, babies - and after all this time, he went back to the gym and stuck with it! And brought home some hardware to show off!

Christmas Traditions

When David and I first moved back to Charlottesville, we always went to the annual Christmas Tree lighting on the Downtown Mall. It's a huge celebration that ends with the lighting of the tree. Unfortunately, this all happens way past Finn's bedtime, so we haven't been able to attend the last two years. Instead, we head to the Barracks Road Christmas Parade the morning after. Finn loved watching the firetrucks and the high school bands march by - but was most interested in the candy canes that were thrown in his direction. We are planning to bring Finn to see Santa Claus this weekend, although we all know that isn't going to go well! My friend Morgan took our family photos for our Christmas cards so we will be sending those out soon. It's such a bizarre but fun feeling to create these new traditions with our family. I'm curious to know what some of your traditions are!
