How To Fascinate
Happy Thursday! I just got back from a conference for work and I'm playing catch up on a bunch of things. Although, I don't know if I'm ever not playing catch up of some kind...Like most conferences, there were some really great speakers, and some others who were a bit of a drag. There was one speaker, Sally Hogshead, who really got me thinking. She owns a company called How To Fascinate, and she works with businesses and individuals on how to use the very things that make us all different to our advantage. Unlike a lot of classes on communication styles, How To Fascinate doesn't focus on how you communicate, but rather on how others perceive you.For instance, my personality archetype is The Architect, meaning that people perceive me as skillful, restrained, and polished. I started laughing as soon as I saw these words - I do not see myself as any of those things. However, several of my colleagues confirmed that those adjectives do describe how they see me. It was eye-opening in so many ways. I see myself as chaotic, loud, and unorganized, but those around me see me in the very opposite way. I guess I must be doing something right! The challenge from here is using those adjectives and building from them. If this is how others see me, then Sally challenges us to use those adjectives to really stand out and make ourselves fascinating to other people. We all have something inside of us that makes us different, so use it to your advantage! There is a test on Sally's website if you're interested in finding out your personality archetype.
