Finn at Nine Months

Oh, Nine-Month-Old Finn, I love you sooo much. I love how smiley and curious you are. I love that you are willing to eat just about anything. I love all your little quirks and habits. I love walking into your room in the morning to see your little face!

Parenting:

I did a deep dive into how motherhood feels 9 months in on Friday's blog post. Parenting is certainly an emotional roller coaster. There are days I feel like I have everything together and days where I am a big ole mess. However, every time I have my little man on my hip, I feel a sense of pride. I'm his mama, and that's the best feeling in the world.

Physical Growth:

Finn is tipping the scales at over 20 pounds. (His official weigh in is later this week). He's in 9-12 month clothing for the most part, but growing out of it quickly. He is crawling everywhere and starting to pull up on other things than just David and me. He is also starting to take steps when he is holding onto his walker. (We bought him this toy a few weeks ago and he is finally starting to use it as a walker!) He will definitely be walking long before his first birthday!

Brain Growth:

Finn knows his name now and he is starting to understand some cause and effect. For instance, if he is in his high chair, he knows it's time for food. When we turn off the lights in his room, he realizes it's time for bed. He gets really impatient about feeding times - like, I'm talking slaps the table and "yells" at us to hurry up with the food. I'm trying to stop this behavior, but I also find it really, really hilarious.

Sleeping:

Finn is now sleeping from 6:30pm-6:30am without waking up. Gosh, I wish I slept that much! Since moving his bedtime up to 6:30, we've seen a huge difference in how easy it is to put him down. It used to be a 45 minute fiasco. Now, it's a book, a bottle and laying him in his crib without a peep. There are some nights he will moan for a minute, 5 minute tops. I highly suggest to other mamas who are having a rough go with bedtime to move it up a little bit. The downside about his sleeping schedule is that I don't get to see him much on weekdays. I'm hoping with Daylight Savings Time coming up, things won't have to change too much!

Eating:

This is where I'm struggling. Finn still eats his normal amount of bottles - all formula since I've stopped breastfeeding. We send food to daycare, and we do another food before bath time at night, but other than that, I'm finding it hard to fit more food into his schedule. I'm looking forward to talking with the pediatrician this week about his eating schedule. I know by now, he should be eating more solids, but I'm really unsure on how to transition him. Sometimes, I feel like we overfeed him already! The good thing is that Finn eats anything and everything. He loves puffs, crackers, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, green beans.

Things I don’t want to forget:

  • When I put Finn into a shopping cart, he grabs the front of it and holds on tight. OMG, his little fingers are so cute!
  • When we wake up in the morning, Finn is talking to himself in his crib. We yell down the hallway to him, and he immediately stops to listen. Then he will let out his little grunt, and expects us to grunt back. We do, of course. It's our little game.
  • Finn is getting the hang of feeding himself finger foods, but when Mom and Dad have food to give him, he sits with his mouth open wide, waiting for us to place the food in his mouth. It's the cutest!

Any mamas have any feeding advice for me?
