Do You Have Hobbies?

BP-poncho-nordstromDo you have any hobbies? As I think more and more about 2018 and what ultimately makes me happy (I talked more about this here) I realize that I need to get back into doing things just for me. I think it's far too convenient to accept that as parents, we have to set aside our hobbies. Why? Because we have to dedicate 100% of our free time to our children? Because when we become parents, that's the only word that defines us? I'd like to challenge that with the theory that by creating time for our own habits and interests, we not only teach our children to do the same, but we also become better parents.BP-poncho-nordstromBP-poncho-nordstromThe tough pill I have to swallow is that even long before Finn was a thought, my hobbies seemed to disappear. I used to define myself as an athlete, an artist, a singer, a concert-goer, a reader, a traveler. The things I did were who I was. The reality is that I'm still all of those things - I love being active and competitive, I love getting my creative juices flowing and creating things, I love music and I love to read. The problem I find is that my hobbies are more feelings than tangible activities. For instance, David loves fly fishing. So when he's feeling the urge to do something for himself, he goes fishing! When I feel that same urge, I can't just up and play a soccer game or go to a concert - so I don't.BP-poncho-nordstromBP-poncho-nordstromAs I start to live with more intention, I've realized that it's not the things I do, but the feelings I get while doing them that I enjoy. Same with David and his fishing - he loves the feeling of fishing, of being alone on the water, of catching a trout on a fly that he created.BP-poncho-nordstromBP-poncho-nordstromIt also made me want to ask - what do you do as a hobby? Do you prioritize time for these things that make you feel happy? Is it something tangible, or just a feeling that you're chasing? How do you incorporate it in your life? I challenge myself to create new hobbies and continue to chase the feeling I got when I was playing competitive soccer or singing in the high school musical. Those things aren't reserved for teenagers - moms can be competitive too!BP-poncho-nordstromBP-poncho-nordstromLastly, about this outfit. I'm a huge fan of the poncho trend. It's such an easy way to look put together, but stay super casual and warm, too! This poncho is unfortunately sold out, but I linked some more below and they are really reasonably priced! Also, I'm sure you'll see this tee and these jeans over and over again. They are my go-to basics! Along with these sneakers! So easy to throw on, super comfortable, and super cute!BP-poncho-nordstromBP-poncho-nordstrom
